Choose to Be Thankful

Lately, it has appeared to me that there are two kinds of people in the world: the givers and the takers. Unfortunately, it seems like today there are more takers than ever before. Clearly, we drastically need more people with thankful hearts.

Galatians 5:22 provides us a list of Christian characteristics that are commonly known as the fruit of the Spirit. They are love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. However, I noticed that being thankful didn't make the list. Evidently, to be thankful comes about by choice. We can choose to be thankful.

We're strongly encouraged to be "always giving thanks to God... for everything". That means everything from the smallest to the biggest. Thanksgiving should be a part of our lifestyle. It should be our choice every day! In the morning (thank you, Lord), in the Noonday, (thank you, Lord), in the evening (thank you, Lord), late in the midnight hour (thank you Lord).

I thank God for bringing to my mind all I need to be thankful for. I know I'm sometimes so hurried and hassled that I don't still my heart and know You are God. But, in this moment, I just want to be still and tell you, "Thank You, Lord, and I love you!"

Start today if you aren't already - be thankful.
