Uprooted for a Purpose

Man of God Rooted in Christ
Man of God Rooted in Christ

Egypt wasn't that great a place for the ancient Israelites. But it was home. Egypt had been their home for generations - 430 years to be exact. They had put roots down. They had planted gardens. They had raised their families there. It was home. But Egypt wasn't the right home for God's people. They were enslaved by Pharoah, forced to work on his massive construction projects, and lived their lives in bondage.

However, God had better plans for his people. In time, he uprooted them and took them away from their home in Egypt. He gave them a better home, planting them in just the right place - the Promised Land. When God uproots his people, he does so with a plan and a purpose. Perhaps God has physically uprooted you from your home. Perhaps God has uprooted you from your job. Maybe he has uprooted a relationship or some plans that you've made.

An uprooting can be painful. It hurts and it can tempt you to think or even believe that God is being needlessly harsh. It may be hard to see and accept at the time, but God uproots you in order to plant you in the right place. As the Holy Spirit works in you, God uproots you from your sin and brokenness. He pulls you up out of a bed of death in order to plant you in a garden of life. He plants you in Christ Jesus. Deeply. Securely.

In Jesus, you can have confidence you'll live one day in his Promised Land. Your eternal home is with your Jesus Christ in the land of life. This certainly gives you hope and peace for the times here on earth when you are uprooted. Yes, uprooting can hurt. Yet, God uproots his people so that they can set down eternal roots with him in exactly the right places.

"You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance - the place, Lord, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, Lord, your hands established", Exodus 15:17. NIV.

Blessings!
