In difficult times, it's natural to want to make changes in your life - like finding a new job, starting a new relationship, or maybe even moving away with hopes of resolving your frustrations. However, we should take a closer a look at the root causes of our frustrations. Discontentment may be the primary issue.
There are three ways discontentment can possibly arise and take root in your life:
The inability to accept yourself as you were created. Your talents, personality, and physical attributes God gave you are exactly what you need to follow His will for your life. Dwelling on the things you lack or would change critically distracts you from your purpose.
Reluctance to deal with your past. You can't move beyond painful memories and mistakes until you've confronted the emotional or psychological issues that resulted from them.
Holding on to ungodly behaviors and attitudes. Sin naturally breeds discontentment. But Psalm 119:165 says, "Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble (NIV)."
The key to contentment lies not in our circumstances but in God Himself. The next time you're frustrated and want to change your situation, take a moment to look inward, ask yourself: Do you accept who God made you to be? Are you in need of His healing? Should you approach Him in repentance? Whatever the case may be, turn to the Lord - He is the source of our strength and true peace and fulfillment.
Blessings!
